Final Malaria Vaccine Technology Roadmap Released

The final Malaria Vaccine Technology Roadmap has been released, concluding an extensive consultative process that was coordinated by the PATH Malaria Vaccine Initiative along with Energetics Incorporated. The Roadmap is based on the results of a series of five meetings held in 2004 and 2005 (Vision Meeting in Hinxton, UK; Roadmap Meeting in Provence, France; and three Stakeholder Meetings in Bethesda, MD, USA; Durban, South Africa; and Oxford, UK) and a 2006 synthesis process through which key experts carefully reviewed the collective input of the malaria vaccine community.

More than 230 experts representing 100 organizations from 35 countries have participated in the process. The resulting Roadmap presents a shared vision and goal and identifies the community's top priorities for accelerating malaria vaccine development. Members of the WHO-led malaria vaccine funders group, who are each associated with agencies funding malaria vaccine development and contributors to the Roadmap process, have committed to greater coordination and partnership in support of the activities identified in the Roadmap.

We hope that the entire malaria vaccine community also will champion the Roadmap priorities. Together, this dedicated community can implement the priorities identified by our community in this Roadmap in order to reach our shared goal sooner – an effective malaria vaccine that can save lives.

Malaria Vaccine Technology Roadmap Meetings – 2005 Report published

The final Malaria Vaccine Technology Roadmap Meetings – 2005 Report has just been published. This report summarizes the results of a series of five meetings held in late 2004 and 2005 to develop the Malaria Vaccine Technology Roadmap. More than 250 people representing more than 100 organizations in 35 countries participated in these meetings.

Technology Roadmap Meeting Results

At the Malaria Vaccine Technology Roadmap Meeting in March 2005, 75 experts from the malaria vaccine community gathered to offer their views on the most important scientific, policy, and infrastructure issues that must be addressed to develop of a successful malaria vaccine.
